Name: Kate Pollard

Lives: Callington, Cornwall (but originally from Plymouth)

University: I studied Public Relations with Sociology at the University of Exeter.

Experience: I have worked in public relations and marketing since 2007! Over the years, I have specialised more in social media marketing, but anything involving writing is where my heart lies. I love watching businesses grow, and with social media I love how easy it is to track results.

How Boost started: I was working for a business in the wedding and hospitality sector, when a previous colleague, Josy, had started Boost to help companies succeed and enrich their businesses. So many companies said at the time, ‘what’s twitter?’ and ‘should I be on Facebook’, this inspired her to set up Boost in 2015. I joined Josy while on maternity leave as a way to explore more of social media marketing, and enjoy a more flexible career working from home!

Favourite Social Media: I really like Instagram. It’s so easy to use and a great place to feel inspired. I love that it’s so visual and enjoy following local profiles on pretty places in Cornwall. It’s pretty good for connecting with like minded social media creators too!

Biggest advice for marketing on social media: My biggest advice for those marketing through social media is to remember, be yourself. Understand your audience and what they want to see and let them into your business. People buy from, and support businesses who they like.

Facebook or Instagram? I prefer Instagram for business… but now I’m creeping into my 40’s I’m part of that older demographic that has been part of Facebook since it’s launch. I like keeping in touch with friends here and reading a good meme here and there, but Instagram is where I go to feel inspired.

In my spare time: When I’m not spending time with my family (I have 3 children and a dog), I love to read, explore Devon and Cornwall walking, pub quizzes and challenge myself to Escape Rooms when I have time.
